My haibun poem "The New Ice Age" turns the tables on the immigration question, positing a lethal situation that would compel U.S. citizens to leave their homes and all they've come to love and emigrate. The propensity to expect indulgence for some accustomed to privilege is expressed in dark comedy, but the central question of compassion or the lack thereof is a version of the same tragedy we see today but here, the fence is on the
opposite bank.
