As an Emergency Physician, the poet in me had to find a way to move away from the “medical” towards the lyrical to celebrate a friendship that transformed me, my friend’s victory in surviving a glioblastoma for 12 plus years and my ongoing grief over her illness. Tapping into the specifics of the dragonfly, the hemlocks, her words, our Emergency Department shift together helped me move towards capturing her spirit, I hope!
