“Perhaps, like me, you also struggle with trying to keep ahead of the many ways in which life falls apart [think Elizabeth Bishop’s poem “One Art”]. At the literal level, every year, the rains come, and once again, I have forgotten to fix my chimney. First comes shrieking, then scurrying. The final stanzas of the poem, which suggest Buddhist acceptance [think "The 5 Remembrances"] are mostly aspirational.”
