Jean Westbrook Leavitt was raised in New England, has lived mainly in the Philadelphia area, with bouts in Indiana, Scotland, and Zimbabwe. Graduating in 1974 with an MA in Creative Writing-Poetry, she has published in chapbooks and won poetry awards. Poems have been fewer while raising two children on her own. For over 30 years, she has practiced as a clairvoyant medium, nationally and internationally. "The Orchard" is one of those poems that "came through whole".
