Statement re poem: This poem began as a hybrid using random lines from books by LatinX writers in a course offered by the wonderful poet and teacher, Valerie Martinez. I’ve changed it quite a bit, but that was the original impulse. We think about water and the conservation of it a lot here in New Mexico, so taking the shape it did fell to hand rather instinctively.
