Paul Jones spent some time in southeastern Turkey in the mid-1980s and published a poem “In Kurdistan” in his chapbook What the Welsh and Chinese Have In Common (North Carolina Writers’ Network, 1990) and in a one off journal with a great name “The Poet Could Not Contain Itself.” “Return to Kurdistan” is an attempt to go back to Samsat and to the now 40-year old poem’s inspirations. Jones is Professor Emeritus of Information Science at the University of North Carolina
