I was raised with God in the sky above me and the ground beneath me. My child’s world shimmered with God. As I grew up, though, I began to perceive God as less present and loving. This poem delves into when I began to see how the pettiness and cruelty of humans reflect the pettiness and cruelty of God, when a hungry Christ curses and kills an out-of-season fig tree.
