Poems, for Now 2024
Editorial Commentary on the Issue
Our National divide is not only the most referenced topic of the work published in the 2024 Poems, for Now, it was in abundant evidence in message, mood, and especially tone overall of the submitted poems to this year’s issue. Political divisiveness seems to be driving the national conversation. Interestingly, two of the three poems on this subject are about healing and coming together. We would love to see that sustained in practice as well as poetry. Other concerns are the Dobbs decision, immigration, endangered species, immigration, and the war in Ukraine. Sadly, the perennial anxiety over race continues in this year’s call as it has in our previous issues.
We want to thank our contributors for their donations to No Kid Hungry. Because of your generosity, we were able to donate $760 to help in the effort to eliminate food insecurity among our most vulnerable population.
