I'm mostly a fiction writer and as such, I've always believed in the power of words to order, make sense of the world. But my wife passed away four years ago, and for a time I lost faith in what had been my vocation. Turning to poetry is part of my struggle to regain what was essentially a lost faith. “The Light Between the Words,” in a way, is a record of loss.
Wayne Karlin has published eight novels, a collection of short stories and three works of non-fiction. His poetry has appeared in several venues. He has received two Fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts, the Paterson Prize in Fiction, the Juniper Prize for Fiction, and the Vietnam Veterans of American Excellence in the Arts Award.
